Loran
Creech, a native Missourian, was born in St. Charles. His
primary medium is transparent watercolor and occasionally
works in pen & ink. He enjoys the hidden "surprises" that
turn up in watercolor and likes the graphic values an
infinite degree of detail available through pen & ink.
Most of his life was spent in Carlsbad, New
Mexico and it was in New Mexico that he was encouraged by
his art instructors to pursue a career in the fine
arts.
His work has been shown at the Carlsbad
Museum and Art Gallery for a one-man show and exhibited at
the Mill Atelier Gallery in Santa Fé, New Mexico. He was
commissioned to paint three life-size fiberglass horses for
a New Mexico statewide project, "The Trail of the Painted
Ponies".
In Missouri, his work has been featured in a
one-man show at William Woods University, Fulton, Missouri,
and at The Garrett Gallery in St. Louis where he took "Best
of Show" with his watercolor, "That Old House…Enroute to
Columbia". The same entry took the "People's Choice" award
at a Jefferson City exhibit.
In 2004, he won first place honors at the
Versailles Palm Sunday show. In May 2004, he won both "Best
of Show" and first place in the Professional Watercolor
Division at the 2004 Jefferson City Adult Artists Exhibit.
His work was accepted into "Watercolor
U.S.A.", one of the country's most prestigious watercolor
exhibits in Springfield, Missouri in 2001 and again in 2002
for "A Pile of Pumpkins". Most recently, his watercolor
"City by the Bay" was accepted into Watercolor USA 2004.
He is an active member of: The
Missouri Watercolor Society, The
Transparent
Watercolor Society of America, The St. Louis Watercolor
Society, The Jefferson City Art Club and the Columbia Art
League. Recently, he was accepted for juried membership to
The Best of Missouri Hands.
He is represented by: The Dunklin Street
Gallery, Jefferson City, Mo, Court Street Coffee & Gallery,
Fulton, MO, Manitou Gallery, California, MO and The Artists'
Gallery in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
He works full-time in his home studio in
California, Missouri. Inquires for private commissions are
